"Bring back the Matron"

About: University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

Just had an emergency operation

From getting a letter from my doctor to having the op was less than 24 hours.

The A&E was very quick only delay was waiting for bed 5 hours.

Once on ward was seen by surgeons strait away .Was told unless an emergency I'm next.

Op ok back on ward. It's 1 pm .By 2 pm I'm ready to go home .

I kept asking when will I be discharged .Every time was told only the surgeon can do that.

For 6 hours I sat in the armchair not one person came to ask if I needed anything .

I couldn't even ask for a drink of water or did I need any medication .had to wait till my visitor came and when she did ask a bunch of orderly staff that were chatting and laughing for some water for me was told the water jugs had already been around if you need water get it from the fountain in a cup and just pointed down the passage way.?She had to bring 8 cups.

At 8 pm when the night shift came on I happen to notice one of the surgeons that examined me the night before I called them over. The first thing the doctor said why are you still here.

When I told the doctor about the discharge saga , the doctor was amazed. With in 5 minutes they had a nurse take out the needles from my arm looked at the dressing and wished me good night.

The doctors the surgeons they are certainly overworked but they are let down by the staff

On the wards or as said on the shop floor.

Just in my case 7 hours of bed was lost .Take it all over the hospital ?????

As an old timer living in this technology cal time I would have liked to be informed that you no longer get discharge note or after care instructions ,I only found out when next morning I rang my doctor to ask about it they said yes your discharge is here and for after care make an appointment with their nurse.

My request to the NHS would be!!

Get a matron on the unit So the rest do something for their wages because I certainly do not see their use.

This is my first surgical requirement in Coventry for many years and as you may gather by my comments very happy with the NHS .But there is a missing link which needs sorting.

Mr Edward Adamonis

Would

Home by 9-15 should have been 2-15 pm
