"our experience of the haematology & oncology dept"

About: Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

(as the patient),

From mum:

I bring my son to the haematology and oncology department. In November, we came for an appointment at Royal Manchester Children's. We didn't go in for hours, clinic was running late. Everything was fine. I think it's mainly because of the bloods coming back that it was late.

From me:

I don't worry about coming to the hospital. I'm brave. The doctors have never scared me. I'm not even worried about having bloods taken. I'd live an Xbox to play on while I'm waiting. In the other hospital (Pendlebury), I was playing with a big Connect 4 which I love so I asked for it for Christmas.

Dr Wynn is always dead nice and always remembers me and my brother and sister.

We're pretty happy. It's hard to find where we need to go, we went to the wrong bit of the hospital so had to walk right through again. It would be good to have a map with the appointment letter.

Thanks for your comments.

It's great to hear that you enjoy seeing Dr Wynn and that he always remembers you! Also, we're pleased that you aren't scared of coming to hospital.

I'll take your comments about the XBox to the play leader and will post back on here when I have more information.

Please ask at the main reception if you're not sure where you're going - there is always someone there and they can give you a map. We don't want you to get lost in the hospital!

To mum - sorry that you were delayed for a previous appointment. We try our best to see patients as quickly as possible and hopefully you won't have this problem with future appointments.

Thank you.

The haematology team have discussed this issue of the entetainment at their operational meeting. There are some problems at the moment with staff sickness which has resulted in the loss of a play worker. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and they will sort out the entertainment issues - we can't promise you an xbox though!
