I went to Rotherham hospital recently and I have very few complaints, even the food was nice. The staff were lovely and it wasn't a place to dread going.

The only problem I had was that there was an elderly lady in the bed next to me who was always fine until about 12 o'clock in the afternoon when she would start shouting and swearing.

One night I was asleep in bed and I felt an almighty whack across my back. It hurt immediately and I fell sick. Then I felt another whack, I turned round and there was a nurse writing on my pad. I asked if someone had just it me and they pointed to the elderly lady in the next bed. The lady was moved the next day.

I appreciate its difficult to know where to put people but I think she could have been better monitored. I reported the incident as it really hurt and it still hurts now

We were very alarmed, however, at your account of being hit by another patient in your bay. You are right that caring for different people in the same environment can be challenging but that is part of our remit to care.

Whilst we are sure that this incident will have been reported (as it appears from your account that it was acted upon) we would really value you contacting us directly via Patient Services on 01709 304461 so we can positively identify it and review the incident in more detail.

We need to consider how this lady was being cared for, how your experience could have been prevented. We should also have discussed these aspects with you better at the time. Please accept our apologies that we didn’t.
