I came into A&E on Monday with symptoms very like the ones I had had in June of this year when it was found that I had had a heart attack. I was very frightened. Long story short it turned out not to be the case but still I had all the checks and tests to confirm this. It was a long day 8 hours plus during which time I saw hospital staff from cleaners to consultants doing an amazing job. Between tests I had time to watch people working, it was fascinating. The co-operation between nurses, doctors, porters and probably many other categories in the workforce, not forgetting the overstretched ambulance staff, looked to me to be almost seamless. The department was running at full stretch and in my working life conditions would have been perfect for frictions and confrontations between members of staff but I saw none of it. Despite the fact that I now class myself as an NHS time waster and a consumer of I don't know how much money in a very pressurised budget I had the best of care. Thank you so much to everyone that day. The person who had had a tooth out and was clearly in pain but still did their job and may I mention the doctor who took care of me for the last few hours of my stay, they must have known that I was ok to go home but still made sure that nothing had been missed and I saw how much dashing about they did that day for their patients.
Also the consultant who took the time to speak to me personally so that I feel more confident about what I should do in the future if similar symptoms happen again.
