"Disappointed with administration of appointments"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / Ophthalmology

My consultant in the glaucoma clinic has for many years booked me in for a 6 month review.

In sequence from January 2015 for a review in about as stated in his report in 6 months time with a repeat of a field test and pointing me to see my optician which I saw on the 27th February 2015.

12 months went by with no consultations despite two telephone calls to appointments, nothing on the system.

After 12 months I saw my optician for the 12 monthly review, which I always have, and they diagnosed during that 12 months lack of consultation that I had developed Cataract and Macular changes and needed urgent treatment.

Contact was made to the eye hospital and was told tell your optician to send a referral which would take 2 weeks.

I put my foot down and made them ring my optician. An appointment was given to me by the glaucoma clinic team to treat for cataracts on the 22nd March 2016.

On the 3rd August 2016 a consultant diagnosed i was treated incorrectly and was diagnosed wet macular degeneration.

My first injection was the 16th August 2016.

I am now still waiting for an appointment to the glaucoma clinic which is in the hands of the deputy director of quality.

It is now 8 months since my last glaucoma clinic appointment and i am still waiting.

i am advised there is only one glaucoma consultant in the system.
