I have had ongoing problems with health since the birth of my child. I was diagnosed with CFS, querying fibromyalgia but not really getting anywhere 3 years later.
Anyway, my recent medication change was to venlafaxine and the dose for this was more recently increased. I still have been unable to get increased dosage because they have been recalled and have been advised to seek out an independent chemist in a nearby town (not an easy task for someone who rarely ventures out).
My current dose has now run out as I forgot to reorder (brain fog), & I can't put in a reorder form because they still say I'm on my previous medication. I called the surgery in a panic and felt the receptionist was very rude on the phone & unhelpful. I can't speak to a doctor, I can't order them over the phone, I NEED to go to doctors! The receptionist then became very irritated sounding and demanded to know how I could pick them up at 5 and not right away. (My husband would collect).
Granted I was being insistent, but is a receptionist's job not to have empathy, understanding and manners? I was now desperate and pleading and begged them to do it over the phone, but they told me to phone back when the people who deal with prescriptions are in.
I understand the NHS is pushed to the limit and workers get a hard time and no doubt take a lot of stick from patients but manners cost nothing. Maybe some training would be helpful. That was a horrible morning and unfortunately it is a common occurrence within this surgery in particular.
Finishing on a positive note, I have had nothing but nice experiences with many other members of staff in the surgery and hope this is a one off for me :/
