"A&E"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Brought my 3 year old son to A&E after he had a high fever, was throwing up all liquids/solids, lethargic, complaining of stomach pain and loss of appetite. Very busy and was seen by an assessment nurse who said he may have fever because of an ear infection and to just wait to be seen...we waited 4 hours and had still not been seen, staff did not care that my young child was seriously ill, others who arrived after us were seen before. After it being over 4 hours we decided to drive to Kingston A&E instead and were seen swiftly by very nice nurses who told us he had appendicitis and would need emergency surgery. Good thing we left as the surgeon told us had my son not been operated on that night he would have died as the infection had started spreading to other organs.

To uyai3: I am terribly sorry to hear about the experience that you had with your son at King's A&E. In the circumstances, I would encourage you to take this further and make a formal complaint. You can do this on-line via https://www.kch.nhs.uk/patientsvisitors/help-and-support/making-a-complaint
