"Made an awful situation bearable"

About: Marie Stopes International Manchester Centre

I would just like to leave my review on how I was treated at the Marie Stopes clinic in Fallowfield.

Four days ago I attended the clinic for a medical termination. I originally had an appointment at 9:50 in my local clinic,60 miles away from Manchester. After attending my 9:50 appointment, I was scanned by a nurse, however they couldn’t detect the embryo due to me having a retroverted uterus. I was told that I would need an internal scan but that it wasn’t available in my current clinic. I was distraught as you can imagine, I was also told that they can’t prescribe the pills without knowing how far along I was! They made a quick phone call to the Manchester clinic and I was told I could have an appointment that same day at 1pm. My husband was sat in the waiting room so we immediately set off on our 60 mile trip.

When we arrived at the Manchester clinic there was protesters outside which I was really uncomfortable about, however once inside I felt more at ease. I was called upstairs at 12:50 with another lady and was told to wait in a room. The other lady got called in first, after she left it was my turn.

The nurse was lovely, I could have hugged them for their kind reassuring words! I am a 35 yr old married mother of 2 children already and this was a complete mistake despite me being on contraception, I felt like this shouldn’t happen to me,but they reassured me that I am not alone and that I wasn’t the oldest woman they had had attend that week!

Anyway they scanned me internally, I asked how far I was and they told me I was 6wk 1 day. I then got given the first pill followed by antibiotics, painkillers and an anti sickness drug. They then gave me 4 pills and I was told to go behind the curtain and insert them internally. I was very apprehensive about the cramps and bleeding starting in the car on the 1.5hr journey home. They reassured me that it was highly unlikely, especially on older ladies. It didn’t thankfully.

I was then told about doing a pregnancy test 3 weeks post abortion and was provided with 2 tests.

I went downstairs to my husband and was free to leave.

All in all I was extremely happy at the treatment and respect I was dealt at the Manchester clinic and would recommend their services. I have no intention of ever going through it again, and I’m sorry for the one that was never meant to be RIP.
