"Refused hip x ray"

About: Princess Royal Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I went to my doctor regarding my hip popping and constantly aching at the age of 19, my doctor said this is not normal and sent me for a hip x-ray.

I arrived at the princess royal hospital, handed in my form from the doctor and waited. 45 minutes passed before my name was called by a member of staff who explained that they refuse to x-ray me due to my age. I told them of my family history since my auntie had to have a hip replacement at the age of 30. They said that this didn't matter and they will not x-ray me. I asked why I was sent by my GP and they said that they don't really know what they're doing.

As you can imagine, this filled me with confidence! I have now been left a lot of worries and do not know what to do. Is the hospital allowed to refuse your GP's x-ray request?
