I was discharged this summer with no help and no diagnosis. In desperation I went privately to a surgeon in London who diagnosed me having given a proper examination ( something that cannot be done through scans alone), with a brachial plexus injury. I had been advised by a consultant at Southampton that even if I did have this as I suspected, no doctor would help me as it is a partial injury. This is patently poor advice and not the case at all. I see my surgeon this week and will ask if my case can be used for research purposes as the neurologists need assistance in identifying for instance a Gilliatt Sumner hand which I do have very clearly.
( Not to mention the severe muscle wasting across my back and displaced shoulder)z The long term nerve damage I now have will require more radical surgery. However, I will be more than happy if surgeons will learn something from my unfortunate experiences.
