Never had such an awful exsperiece in a walk in centre/GP in my life. This was completely down to one particular receptionist that was working at 3.30 on 27th febuary 2017.
As soon as I went to the walk in reception, they spoke to me with a major attitude, cut me off a number of time and was generally uncaring and disrespectful. I tried to tell them I was very worried due to the fact my temperature was sky high, and in a lot of pain, and most importantly I am on immune suppressants. This is a matter of emergency. Not only did they cut me off and ignore what I said they practically shoved a sign in form over the counter, they said 'well you'll be waiting over three hours' once agin I stated I was worried because I was on immune suppressants, they basically just nodded and ignored me again. I also wrote this down on my sign in sheet. I was waiting way over 3 hours to be seen to, and I knew the receptionists could see my distress, rocking back and forward in pain, but they ignored that again. They also spent a lot of time 'nattering' and eating food at the front desk which I think was very unproffesional. When I finally got to see the doctor (the doctor was the only good thing about my visit) they were very concerned and asked me if I told the receptionist that I was on immune suppressants, I told them I enforsised this and was ignored, they were not happy with this and said I should have been sent through straight away, and told me they were going to log this as this was very bad service and they could see my heart rate, temperature and blood pressure were all worryingly high, they said I needed to go to hospital right away, as they thought this could be sepsis, so I need bloods and possibly a lumber puncture asap. I went to st James hospital in Leeds and they were concerned but very busy unfortunately. I was finally seen to, and by this time I was hunched over in agony, they gave my a number of high doses pain killers and antibiotics and immediately had to attached a drip to rehydrate my body. My heart beat, blood pressure and temperature was still through the roof. The hospital consultant was also not happy about how long I was waiting to be seen as this could have been fatal if it was septicaemia. I was in over night, and after been given steroids, more antibiotics and it taking about 9 hours to get my temperature down I was finally allowed to go home, with antibiotics and coedine pain relief. I now have to take a full week off work and after watinf for treatment for so long I feel exstremely I'll. I am considering taking further action because due to the receptionist lack of duty of care, responsibility and respect this could have been fatal and the doctor at the walk in centre and consultant at the hospital are in agreement with this. I exspect action to be taken so no other patient end up serverely ill and in hospital.
