After visiting the urology department for a Cystoscopy i was appalled about the level of pain associated with this procedure....I think that people should be aware of this and make a decision whether to go ahead with it without some sort of sedation....It is almost medieval to say the least...After the procedure you are sent home with the knowledge to drink copious amounts of water to flush out the bladder.,this in itself is pretty obvious thing to do but as humans our bodies are not geared to drink excessive amounts of water in such a short period of time....The consequences of this being that the cardiovascular system goes into overdrive and can result in a heart attack or even a stroke...This information is readily available on the internet but not forthcoming from the urology department....As this was happening to me i rang the urology department only to be told that they had never neard of this and someone would ring me back shortly with advice what to do.... I am still waiting for said telephone call which up till now has been unforthcoming.... I had worked for the nhs as a nurse for many years and in private clinics for consultant doctors..... So i was well aware what was happening to me was far from normal.... I would advise anyone to find out as much information from Doctors and Nurses about this procedure instead of relying on a piece of paper with so called information of does and donts.....
