I recently attended A and E in Warrington were the triage team were excellent. The Doctor involved was excellent but the nurse administering the drugs was far from it. I attended for what was to be a short day stay, at least that was the plan drawn up by the Doctor whichseemed fine for me. The nurse administered a bolus of Argentin to combat an infected insect bite which resulted in a reaction from myself that was extremely frightening. Not the nurse's or the doctor's fault but the nurse's attitude was unbelieveable. Their first comment was that this shouldn't be happening. The nurse seemed to think that the uncontrollable shaking was happening only when they were there and that I would have to stop it. It was, I find out later a severe reaction to the amount of drug administered directy into the vein and not necessarily the substance itself. No one was to know I would react that way but the nurse's attitude was really unhelpful. I had an ECG reading with difficulty where they said I would have to keep still when I was shaking violently followed by oxygen, a nebulizer and fluids being dripped in to combat the reaction. I understand they are under great pressure but a little patience wouldn't go amiss. It resulted in a 3 day stay in acute medecine ward where the Doctor did apologise when they followed up my case even though they had nothing to apologise for and they couldn't have apologised enough for the A and E nurse's attitude. I have never had cause to complain about any treatment received in either Warrington or Halton in fact just the opposite but I felt this was warranted.
"First rate A and E care let down by one nurse"
