"Disorganised and a waste of time"

About: Queen Marys Hospital (Sidcup)

**I visited the maxillofacial dept - no option below!

Original appointment rescheduled from Sept to a month later in October with no reason given. Department very difficult to find - poor signage. Reception didn't Take in my form which resulted in me being overlooked by the nurse and going into my appointment 45 mins late, only to be told that the clinic was “running on time”. Then the x-ray machine was out of action meaning that the consultation was a waste of time - as nothing could really be discussed properly or decided, and I have to go back for another appointment. I was not able to discuss the booking of the next appointment with the receptionist. Rather, I was told abruptly it would be sent in the post, while 5 staff just carried on chatting and ignoring me, like I was an interruption to their conversation. I now have to find two extra slots of time - one to get an X-ray done, and one to be seen again for the consultation I should have had today. What a massive waste of time. There really was no point attending the appointment at all. The staff need to explain to patients the procedure on arrival, have a system in place for gathering information sheets, and not put us to sit outside - away from their reception desk, as if we are a nuisance. There needs to be a facility where you can discuss and look at availability for next appointments with a receptionist. Especially considering the cancelled appointment, and waste of time today! These are just basics really...not asking for any sort of luxury!

Firstly thank you for sharing your experience at Queen Mary's. I am sorry to hear about the difficulties that you had with your appointments and also with the attitude of some of our receptoin staff.

We really would like to follow up on the issues that you raise and I would encourage you to contact our PALS serivce. They are based at the Princess Royal but also cover Queen Mary's and I know that they would like to investigate the issues that you have highlighed in your comments.

They can be contacted by

Email: kch-tr.PALSkent@nhs.net or phone Tel: 01689 863252.

I realise it may not be much consolation, but the trust is also in the middle of a large scale project to improve our outpatient services and to try to eliminate the types of problems that you have faced.

Once again, apologies for the frustrations that you have faced.
