"Distressing lack of care in Aberdeen Royal"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services

(as the patient),

I was admitted to gynae for an elective procedure that lasted a few hours.

I found the hospital to be dirty and in real need of a revamp. I know decor is not the first thing a patient needs, but a clean and friendly environment helps.

There was dirt and hair on the floor and it generally felt a disgusting place to be. The nurses I met were rude and surly and just generally quite horrible. As this was quite a sensitive procedure I expected the nurses to be nicer, but I felt they went on as if I was wasting their time. I felt thoroughly judged by them.

To make matters worse, my pain got so unbearable that when the tea lady (who is about the best thing I met at this hospital) came in to give me another tea she found me in quite considerable pain and went to get the nurses to administer pain relief. They didn't come and I was left to have the procedure by myself in unbearable pain.

It was a wholly distressing and traumatising experience for me and nothing will ever possess me to step foot inside this hospital again.

I am usually a big supporter and advocate of the NHS, but this was a massive black mark. I hope nobody else has to go through a degrading experience like this.
