"Simply the most positive visit to any hospital"

About: William Harvey Hospital / Maternity

So here goes my wife was pregnant and we found ourselves in a tricky situation as to what hospital to choose to deliver the baby due to our location we had the choice of WHH or QEQM this was our second child and she was categorised as “high risk” due to having a previous emergency c-section but we found it difficult to decide which hospital to choose so we decided following recommendations from our midwife that we would attend the VBAC workshop these where held at each hospital monthly swapping from one hospital to the other so first we attended QEQM we had our first child at that hospital and knew pretty much where everything was we found the workshop extremely helpful but still didn’t know where anything was in WHH so decided that the following month we would attend the VBAC workshop there mainly just to compare what facilities where available and I can’t express how glad we was to have made that decision as following the workshop we where both in unquestionable agreement that WHH was the hospital for us to have our second child so we found ourselves on a Sunday morning getting ready for our day when the unmistakable twinges of contractions begin we began to monitor until the time came to call the hospital we was asked to go in to be checked over after examination it was decided we would stay in sadly it was a false alarm in the end and labour stalled the staff looking after us where very friendly and nothing we asked seemed to be to much always smiling and making you feel like you was their priority anyway we went home again and was asked to come back on the Tuesday for a sweep we attended maternity day care for this we was told when was checked over there was signs of medical complications and was told she had to be admitted until the baby was born this was not the greatest news to here but the actions where taken very swiftly and within 20 mins we was back on the delivery suite now we was there a total of 3 days as you can imagine we met many staff each as friendly as the last each shift we was handed over in a professional and personal way where it was clear each member of staff cared irrespective of their role from student to midwife from doctor to consultant even theatre team all came in and discussed our birthing plan each shift to ensure they understood our plan and the got the information directly from us now I understand some people may get frustrated repeating the same information to a whole new team shift after shift but we found it to be a comfort that each one of them wanted to get the information directly from us to ensure continuity of care now you may have noticed that I have been using the term “us” when it was my wife in labour but the truth is I was also included in the process and the team made it clear that they valued my input as much as hers as we are a couple and the baby is ours I can’t recommend this ward or it’s staff highly enough each and every one of them went above and beyond the call of duty to care for us
