"Stop allowing anybody with a Leeds postcode to..."

About: One Medicare LLP-the Light

Honestly this practice is a joke, I've been using it (or at least trying to) for several years now. If you want to see a doctor, good luck getting anything for at least 4 weeks. If you are OK with a nurse or nurse practitioner, then you might get an appointment within 3 weeks if you're lucky.

Reception staff are quite rude and inattentive, and seem to be more interested gossiping about whatever garbage they watched on TV last night or whatever.

IT systems are pathetic, but probably cost the NHS about £10billion.

When you go to the practice for a drop-in session, it is full of angry drug addicts and 'homeless' people, or people who can barely speak or understand English demanding their sickly rugrats are seen to immediately.

The doctors change frequently, so I guess they are not happy there either.

The main problem is that the eligibility criteria to register here is so wide (basically any Leeds postcode, so people living in Wetherby or Ilkley can use it!) that they don't have enough resources to cope. The NHS obviously pays them a fee 'per registered patient' and they are taking advantage of this. Convenient for those working in Leeds, yeah. But meanwhile, those of us who live in the city centre are stuck and can't even register anywhere else.

I would strongly recommend you swerve this practice and go private instead.

Dear Patient,

As the new manager of The Light Surgery, please let me first apologise for the lengthy delay in responding to your complaint. I'm sorry you have felt the surgery has not met the high standards we aim to achieve. You are correct in stating we accept many patients across Leeds, but this is not based on the 'fee per registered patient' but due to the NHS guidelines that patients cannot be refused registration because they are homeless, not from the UK or they do not live 'within boundaries'. Patients now have the right to access any GP regardless of their address - you can find more info about this at:

www.bma.org.uk/advice/employment/gp-practices/service-provision/out-of-area-registered-patients.

We understand the difficulties of getting an appointment during our busier times, but please rest assured we are doing everything we can to ensure we are offering a wide range of appointments with our GPs, ANPs (who can issue prescriptions/sick notes and are competent to see almost everything a GP sees) prescribing nurses, patient advisors and many more to provide a wide range of skills to those who may need it. We are currently reviewing our appointment system to offer more availablility online so please bear with us while we implement the changes. Lastly, if you have felt our receptionists were not as attentive as expected, please let me know the day and estimate of time you attended and I will certainly look into this further. You can contact me by telephone or via the practice email if you would like this to discuss this in more detail.

Regards,

The Light
