"Amazing care all the way through!"

About: Highfield Hospital

I have recently had major surgery and chose highfiled as my hospital, my first appointment was at the outpatients department with my consultant and there was approx 20 mins waiting time as they were running a little behind, (a few year ago I had waited 2 hour and 40 mins at rochdale infirmity for an outpatient appointment so Im more than happy to wait 20 mins.) this gave me chance for a free coffee ??

My consultant was caring and helpful and

I felt in safe hands when they confirmed surgery was required.

I revived a phone call a few week later asking if the date of 12th Sep I said yes and the information was sent through the post,

I needed a pre op before as well .

The pre op nurse was lovely and any questions I had they answered making me feel in safe hands again.

My surgery date was here and I arrive at main reception where I waited for porter to take me to my room, a private room! with its own wet room? Wow it was beautiful. I had a few hour wait before I was due to go down the theatre but I had my laptop so could do some work.

A nurse came and did my ops and provided me with a nighty and surgical socks, then my anethasist came and then my consultant, they went through everything to make sure I was fully aware. Lastly the waitress came to see what food and drink I would like when I returned to the ward I looked through the menu ( yes a menu) and placed my older which is of no cost to me?

In theatre they explained everything again and to sleep I went.

I woke 3 hour later at 19.20 in recovery where my consultant came to see me but I struggled coming round so they waited till I was back in my room and more awake before he talked to me about my op, they informed me it went really well ! Phew!

The care that night was second to none the night nurses where checking my obs often and attend to me when I needed it, they worked so hard!

I didn't get much sleep though due to inflatable sock things I had to wear that fill with air every few mins and then deflate, but my consultant informed me they prevent blood clots and save my life so I'll take no sleep over that!

Day 2 in hospital and agian the waitress came and took my food order for the day I had a full English breakfast with coffee and an orange juice, and for lunch a smoked samon salad, wow am I in heaven? i didn't want to go home ?? But unfortunely discharge day came! ??

My consultand came to see me again and the discharge nurse got my medication and booked my follow ups for them and for dressing change etc. Overall this experience has been amazing and other than being very poorly I would have thought I was on holiday in a 5 star hotel not on a hospital ward. I will recommend having surgery here to my friends and family and anyone else I meet it really was 100% care from start to finish
