I tend to use the open surgery as more convenient. You need to be really quick to book an appointment on the online system- if you are not logged on at 8am then most appointments get booked up within 10 minutes. I find booking in with the nurse is great and timings usually stay on track. Booking with a doctor however is often more difficult and often you are still waiting after your appointment time. I don't mind waiting if for myself but if the appointment is for my son (17months) then I need to get in and out as quick as possible.

Having said all of this I like the service offered and the days/times available for open surgery.
