"Thank you to all who made my time at the Royal a pleasant one"

About: Florence Nightingale Community Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After discharging myself from A&E, because the nurse sneezed into her hand and then wiped this on her wrist when she was preparing to take my blood, I was re admitted. I was in so much pain by the Monday, that I was hallucinating and seeing lizards and hearing opera! My GP sent me to the medical assessment unit, who diagnosed a serious urine infection and they kept me in and put me on a drip and gave me antibiotics. I must say the standard of hygiene on this ward was fantastic! All nurses here washed their hands and wore gloves before any procedures. I was in a lovely en suite room and it was pristine.

My only criticism this time was the bedside manner of one or two Health Care Assistants. One lady came to do my obs and she was chewing gum, didn’t speak, and had no sympathy when I yelped as she shot a syringe into my vein to "flush it" because blood had got into my tube. I’m sure there was no need to fire it in like a water pistol, as the lovely lady who did it the next day was so gentle I didn’t feel a thing?

Must say also the food was second to none here...absolutely brilliant, and the lad who brought the teas round was always so pleasant. I am now feeling lots better and am at home on antibiotic tablets, thank you to all who made my time at the Royal a pleasant one.
