"Awful, from reception to doctors"

About: Leigh View Medical Practice

Was denied an emergency appointment as I was told you can only discuss one issue at an emergency appointment (trying to decide which is more important - the head injury I sustained on Saturday or the chest pain I experienced on Sunday) so was given the next routine appointment a week and a half later.

Upon arriving at 8.15 for the appointment (8.20am, 20 minutes after the surgery opened) I wasn't seen until 8.40. How they are running late after just 20 minutes is beyond my comprehension.

The doctor I saw was extremely dismissive of my head injury - I had a suspected concussion from playing contact sports, and my sports coach had advised me to seek medical clearance before returning to play. I was quizzed on concussion protocol and made to feel very uncomfortable. Felt more like an inquisition than a doctors appointment. It's a shame doctors don't show the same duty of care to their patients that my.coach does for his players.

This was a Wednesday and I was promised a note the following day to give my coach as clearance to play on Saturday. I received a phone call from reception on Monday stating that my letter was ready and I would be charged £15. There was no mention of a charge at the appointment, and the letter is late anyway so I will not be paying this.

Disgusting from start to finish. I rarely go to my GP as I'm terrified of the doctors, and with experiences like this it's no wonder. I've probably been to Leigh View medical centre about 6 times in 7 years and every time has been impersonal and dismissive.

Thank you for your taking the time to feed back online, I am sorry to hear that you have had difficulty with the appointment system and with your request for a private letter.

We would be happy to look into your difficulties further, if you could get in touch with the practice to let us know which patient you are so that we can review your notes and the relevant calls.

All calls are recorded, so we would be happy to review your call and see if the current systems were followed by the staff.

In terms of understanding the appointment system, the reception staff never ask the nature of the problem but only for the patient to decide how urgent it is.

They would have been happy to book you in if you had asked to be seen on the same day, and had you mentioned a head injury you would have been advised to go immediately to St Georges Minor Injuries clinic as this is difficult to treat in general practice.

It is unfortunate that you had two matters that you considered urgent, yet you instead decided to wait for over a week for both to be dealt with together.

I would therefore be very happy to review the requests that you made further and see what happened.

If you could get in touch with me please via Reception or via letter to give me your details.

Please note that we cannot accept email letters from patients due to patient confidentiality.

Many thanks

Miss Victoria Allen - Practice Manager
