"Lack of appointments"

About: Yeadon Tarn Medical Practice

I have been at the surgery for many years but I remain only because of location and one particular GP who is fantastic and I assume that because I can never get to see or speak to them everyone else thinks the same.

I recently had a message to book a Telephone call with my GP and I am now waiting until the last week in February because this was the earliest telephone call that the receptionist could find.

I appreciate they are busy but if a message is sent you assume they wish to speak to you soon and not in a months time.

In addition I cannot understand why my husband who is registered at a different surgery receives regular invites for health checks and again I have never received anything.

Finally there is no cover when a nurse or phlebotomist is off sick and no help is offered when the hospital say you need dressing changes or stitches out on certain days and they have nothing for weeks.

I know there is nothing the poor receptionist can do but surely they have a few back up things they can offer.

Thank you

I would like to apologise for the experience you had. It was during a very busy time for the practice and when we had a nurse off on long term sick. We do aim to provide cover for this particular type of absence and during the period of her absence we will have covered approximately 80% of her clinic time with 3 regular locums.

In terms of dressings it will depend on what type of dressing is required and the circumstances of the patient as to whether the dressing should be administered through our selves or District nursing services. The nurse being off reduced our normal capacity for this and it is difficult to get like for like locum cover nurses with exactly the same skills. However we also used our Advanced Nurse Practitioners to provide dressings support during this period and so I would be interested as to how you were not passed on to them to do the dressing. If you contact the practice with your name etc I would be happy to look into the specifics of what happened in your case. In the meantime my apologies for the experience you had.
