About: Forth Valley Community Services / Max in the Middle (Health & Wellbeing programme)

(as a service user),

I felt that Max in the Middle was great and was very active I relay enjoyed it and it brought me out of my comfort zone. What was good? Dancing and acting.

But I did not really get the point or use of it because there was not much information.

Hi there Bobfunnybones.

Thank you for your story and I'm glad you enjoyed Max. I'm interested in your comment about not quite getting the point. So I thought I'd try and explain what I think is the point to see if it helps in any way:

Max in the Middle goes out to hundreds of young people aged 10 to 11 and they come from many different backgrounds. One of our main aims is to encourage young people to take an active interest in their own health and fitness. We also want to do this by discussing what the young people think are important (what they are in the middle of). We think food and exercise is very important so we spend Tasty Tuesday giving information on the Eat Well Guide, and also preparing, serving and tasting a variety of foods that are part of a balanced menu.

On work out Wednesday we also look at the 6 elements of fitness and also work with the class to look at all the activities you get up to in your spare time, and also ask if you would like to try something that your classmates enjoy.

Two of the key ingredients to health is eating well and being active.

We also look at social situations that young people encounter and discuss the feelings we might have, and how we might deal with those feelings. This again is another important part of health.

I hope that helps explain what the point is.

Lastly I notice that you were wondering if there could be more information. Is there any specific topic that you'd like more information on? I'm sure the class teacher could help, or I could help the teacher if he or she was unsure.
