I fell down steps at a wedding falling on my face, damaging my knee and hand and feeling quite disorientated. Having phoned the paramedic they insisted I went to the A & E department to be checked. Arriving at 10.30pm I was given an XRay on my hand quite quickly but not checked for anything else. 5 hours later with my hand turning black with blood from the break and bruising - after asking the receptionists numerous times - they seemed to not care at all and told me to go and sit down.
It did not seem to be unduly busy, so I can only assume there was no medical staff.
Eventually I went in to see a doctor - who had either just got out of bed or was ready to go because they seemed barely coherent. At first they could not find the XRay - when they did they could not see the break in my finger until I showed them myself - then said they were not qualified to deal with it.
I asked the Doctor what next and they said best strap it up and come back the following week - to which I said I did not live in the area but 150 miles away. After much toing and froing they tried to tape 2 fingers together for support but even that they found difficult to do.
No check for concussion, no check on my bleeding knee or the nasty cut on my face. I left in disgust - tried to get a couple of hours sleep - drove home the next day in desperation, fortunately I have an automatic car or I do not know what I would have done.
I visited my local hospital that same day to be met with superb service and the doctor was appalled at the treatment - or lack of - that I had received. They were very concerned that there had been no check for concussion particularly as I am 67 and by then was feeling a bit spaced out!
I rarely if ever write reviews, and waited till my temper had cooled somewhat before writing this.
But whoever is in charge of that place needs to be on the receiving end of treatment like this and maybe they would understand how angry, upset and scared I was.
