"Recent out patient visit"

About: Chaucer Hospital

Had an outpatient visit to see a Consultant and advised how much this was going to cost before my appointment which was fine.

I was then advised to return to the Consultants surgery a week later for a small procedure-no mention about additional costs. I attended and was in and out again in 10 minutes no mention of cost.

A few weeks on to my astonishment I receive invoices from my Consultant of some £450 but a whopping £300 or so from Chaucer Hospital.I thought my Consultants costs included everything.

I queried especially with Chaucer but after numerous attempts they took the money from my credit card regardless,I was furious.

I was offered a small discount and told that I should read the notices displayed at the hospital.

This little procedure and a total of probably 20 minutes max cost me about £750!

Very disappointed with the way this has been handled generally.

Thank you for your feedback on this, which I have responded to individually too. Patient confidentiality prevents me giving a full answer on this public website for your individual case, but I’d like to reassure you that as a direct result I have toured all the consulting areas to make sure that the existing signs setting out that fees are chargeable for tests, investigations and procedures for self-paying patients, are placed prominently.
