"Amazed at the help given at every turn of events!"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

Our visit to Oldham hospital was cared for from the start to end, in every departments (and we visited a lot) to every level of staff that cared for us.

Our visit began on 3rd October turned up at the birthing centre.

After my obs they realised that my blood pressure was a little too high, which meant I could not stay on the birthing suit.

As this was in my birthing plan I was very upset.

The midwifes supported me and explained everything before sending me to Triage.

On Triage we were seen to quickly and everything was explained before they monitored me.

The midwife was listening in on my to see how far along I was, while attending to other patients.

As we were not as far along as we thought, we said we would prefer to go home.

They did the necessary checks and then allowed us to go home..... one tip here thought, don't forget to let your patients know the chairs recline!

After 8 hours at home we came back and now that my blood pressure had gone down we were back on the birthing centre, where we wanted to be.

However this time, although showing signs of established labour, I was only 1 cm dilated.

Once again my emotions were high, but the midwifes explained everything in detail once again and made me feel at ease.

I was off to the anti-natal, however due to my waters breaking almost 24 hours they decided to put me on the labour ward.

All checks were done and the midwife gave me my options.

I decided not to be induced but to labour naturally, so I was back on the anti natal ward.

Stayed for 14 hours.

After a bath I called for help.

The midwife recognised that I looked like I was in established labour.

They reacted quickly and examined me.

I was at 5 cm, they quickly got me ready for transferring to the labour ward.

While getting me ready they noticed meconium from the baby and once again reacted with urgency.

Once on the labour ward the midwife who was going to help me birth was amazing (so sorry I don't remember their name).

They knew something wasn't quite right and got a second opinion.

The surgeon agreed - I was breach!

This is where your team were amazing.

Once I had decided to have the operation they acted with such speed, pulled together, opened up a closed theatre and found the staff to man it.

Although one of the worst experiences of my life, I felt assured I was in safe hands.

During surgery my boys head was stuck, which lead to him not breathing.

The team were once again responding with support teams and took him to intensive care.

As I am running out of words I will be brief now...

Surgery team - amazing!

Labour ward looking after me- amazing!

Intensive care unit - All amazing

Post natal ward - all midwifes! plus support team all the way down to the cleaners who always take time to see how you are.

I don't know why Oldham hospital or the NHS get such a bad rep - you were all amazing

Thank you XXXXX

Thank you for sharing your birth experience. I am glad to hear that you felt supported during what must have been a scary time for you. Our maternity teams work together to provide prompt, effective and safe care at all times. This is clearly evident from your lovely comments about them all. I have forwarded your feedback to Diane Chadderton Community Matron, Belinda Jackson In-Patient Matron and Sharon Halsall Labour Ward Matron as I know that they will be pleased to hear it. I have also put it on the staff notice boards in each area.

If you have a picture of your baby that you would be happy to be placed on our newly painted thankyou tree on the postnatal ward please forward it to me at:
