"No stroke doctor on a weekend"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

Family friend visiting from High Wycombe who had previously suffered a stroke was admitted to hospital on Friday. We were told a stroke doctor wouldn't be able to see her until Monday when they returned to work as they didn't work on weekends. It meant no medicines could be prescribed neither any investigation into her previous treatment down south so she was forced to stay in hospital not doing very much. This was poor and a quicker assessment may have meant she could have left and gone home after a check up.

Dear Stroke Doctor

I am sorry to learn that your relative’s experience of the Trust on this occasion was not a positive one. It is not clear if your relative is still an in-patient but we would like the opportunity to investigate the issues that you have raised in more detail and most importantly ensure that they have received the care they need. In order for us to do this please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01709 424461 so we can discuss your concerns in confidence.

With best wishes.
