"ward 26 vascular dementia friendly care"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary / Vascular surgery

My mother recently spent nearly 5 weeks on ward 26. We were so worried when she went in, as Mum is diagnosed with dementia. She cannot feed, toilet or dress herself. She cannot communicate verbally. She is a very loving lady, but can obviously become upset when things are going on that she can't understand. The ward staff, led by an excellent sister, treated mum with kindness, patience and expertise.

Our family were allowed to visit whenever we wanted, so we could help out by feeding Mum whenever we could.

The ulcerated leg condition that put Mum in hospital was treated amazingly; her legs looked so much better.

Any concerns were quickly addressed, and communication was fantastic. The whole team , including cleaning staff and the staff giving out drinks, were great.

Help with Mums discharge and future care was invaluable too.

The care was kind, affectionate, professional and loving.

Thank you so much for this feedback and I am sorry that because of an IT issue we had not seen this sooner. We have passed on your feedback to the ward, it is great to hear that on this busy surgical ward they were tuned in to your Mum's needs as someone living with dementia, and it is really good to see the work we have been doing on this, including 'John's Campaign' in action across all the staff groups.

This is exactly what we want to hear and thank you for taking the time to feed this back to us.
