"waiting time to see a doctor"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

My wife was admitted to A & E at 5.20pm. she was seen by nursing staff and processed at 6.15pm she was seen in a cubical and asked to wait outside by 6.30pm.

At 7.45pm she was moved to Carroll Assmt and OBS Unit placed in a room and advised a doctor would see her .

At 11.45 I approached the nursing station ( A & E) and explained my wife had been waiting 4 hours and no doctor had seen he, a doctor laughed saying "4 hours that's nothing" I returned to my wife's room.at 2.45am a doctor eventually came in to see my wife ( 7 hours later) asked a lot of questions etc and at 3.ooam she was sent for a Xray. At 3.30 my wife was told she would be required to stay in and was moved to a wad at the same unit,. I saw her settled in and left the hospital at 3.45am .

The nursing staff were good, the problem is the doctors who think they are God. This superior attitude and culture particularly among the senior doctors needs to be stamped out. it is their attitude and unacceptable delay in dealing with patients which is the cause of lengthy delays, but they have an excellent excuse, It is time the authorities made doctors accountable and answerable for their actions, unfortunately no one has the guts to do so.

I am saddened to learn of the experiences you describe when you attended the Emergency Department with your wife. I would like to apologise for the poor level of service you have received and I have forwarded your comments onto the Clinical General Manager for the Emergency Department, so that he is aware of your concerns.

Please contact our PALS team by telephone on 0208 869 5118 or by email at LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net and we will be able to investigate this further.

Kind regards

Pam
