My wife and I attended the centre open mindedly wanting to know what all of our options were in regard to being able to have children. Although wanting to initially start will drug treatments such as clomid, we felt pushed by the centre towards going straight in for ivf.
We went through all the initial investigations assessing our fertility which only confirmed what our GPs had been saying all along, that my wife has pcos and is slighly above the bmi that she needs to be, although she would be fine if the NHS didn't keep changing there benchmarks for this. When i provided my sample i was taken into a room that the last chap had just come out of, it stank in there and there was fresh siemen dripped on the floor, not a great place to be. We held fast and started on the clomid however, on attending the consultation to get the initial prescription the doctor hadn't read our notes or my wifes medical history. The doctor was rude and very arrogant leaving us feeling upset by the whole experience.
Clomid proved unsuccessful so after a further consultation with a separate doctor at the clinic my wife was placed on tamoxifen and was told that this was a drug with few side effects yet worked in a similar way to clomid. After multiple uses of tamoxifen my wife suffered severe side effects including drastic mood swings, insomnia, depression and most notably severe vaginal bleeding. Reading now on what others have experienced at other fertility centres about follow up sessions and reviews after being placed on medication, we had none of this from the Bath Fertility Centre, with very little evidence of duty of care. On calling the centre regarding the bleeding we were told that they didn't know what was causing it and to see our GP effectively washing their hands of us. As the GP was unavailable for apoontments we called the non-emergency NHS number and were told to go immediately to A and E.
My wife and I have since liaised further with the centre after multiple calls who have now said that my wife needs to come off the tamoxifen and needs to lose weight, putting the above symptoms down to that, although weight wasn't an issue when she was placed on it and since being on it she has continued to lose weight anyway.
We have now finished with the centre and will not be going back, the whole experience has been deeply upsetting and traumatic. We would not recommomend the centre to anyone and would seriously question whether they actually want to help people. Please beware and look at all options before attending a centre like this. Be warned!
"Very dissapointed"
