"Suberachnoid Brain Haemorrhage"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as the patient),

In January this year I suffered a Suberachnoid Brain Haemorrhage.  I was rushed from Wishaw Hospital and was sent to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.  I was operated on, and consequently went in to High Dependency ward.  The surgeon, nurses and staff were fantastic with my care and when I moved to Intensive care the same applied.  The staff were very informative, helpful, caring to both myself, my wife and family.  I cannot thank them enough for everything for the 5.5 weeks I was in hospital.

I was told I would receive a follow up appointment in 6 six months for medication etc, unfortunately 8 months passed and I contacted the hospital and spoke to my consultants secretary and she informed me my consultant was 6 months behind on appointments and to see my GP.  I was really very disappointed in this and made me very anxious.  I contacted my GP and they told me they could not advise or do anything for me as I must see my consultant.  My GP has wrote to them and hopefully will get a response.  Very disappointed with the appointment situation as the care and support in the actual hospital was second to none.

Dear Bayhill

Thank you for posting on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to read that you had to be admitted with a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage. However, I am please to read about the care that you received and that the staff were informative, helpful and caring to you, your wife and your family.

Regarding the length of wait for your follow up appointment, I understand your disappointment and can appreciate that this is an anxious time for you and your family. I have shared your post with the Clinical Services Manager and we would like to look into this further. Would you be able to email me with your personal details including your date of birth? My email address is Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk. Could you please quote the reference number: 401081?

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Bayhill

I am sorry for the delay in your follow up appointment.

Unfortunately we are not yet in a position to offer you a follow up appointment date and I appreciate that this will be disappointing. I can confirm that your consultant has written to your GP who will be able to provide you with further information.

I would like to reassure you that we are doing everything possible to arrange additional activity to accommodate patients who are experiencing appointment delays.

Regards

Craig Broadfoot
