My mother in law was sent to this ward after having a fall and sustaining head injuries, she already has alzheimers dementiaand we were told that this ward was a complex needs ward.
There are many instances that have happened for us to question the destinct lack of care given to my mother in law and other patients. My opinion is that the staff there do not understand dementia and due to being understaffed and under trained just leave the patients alone and our family have witnessed on many occasions that patients alarms are going off when they turn in the bed and staff do no even attend to see why the alarm has gone off. At one stage a nurse even asked my mother in law if she was allergic to anything before giving her medication to her, we did stop the nurse and question the nurse to say we hope they wasn't giving out medication based on the patient site answer and we wanted to check what the nurse was giving our family member. Naturally it wasn't long before my mother in law got out of bed in the night and fell again, staff say it was an unwitnessed fall and they can't say how long she was on the floor for . It makes a mockery of the term care as we have not witnessed any of that in this ward. In general I must add that I have great praise for the
NHS and it's hard working staff but it seems that they have got it horribly wrong on ward F14 and it's a matter of time before somebody sues the trust .
