"Bowel cancer screening endoscpoy"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital

Absolutely horrible experience.

Not completely the fault of the hospital as the info provided centrally was misleading regarding level of discomfort & was also condescending (really does anyone 55 need to be told about 'poo' rather than faeces??) & the expectation that anyone could administer their own enema at home without previous experience is ridiculous. I understand the benefits of screening and so went along with it in spite of reservations.

The receptionist & 2 booking in nurses were friendly, but the person who attempted to do the procedure obvs didn't read the completed forms as they made no allowance for the fact that I have hearing aids.

Theye did not explain what they were doing at each stage & got cross when I did not keep still as the procedure started and I was not conformable and irritably asked if I wanted gas & air.

They told me that the enema had not been effective and they would need to do it again.

The sister who was supposed to be supporting me as ineffectual - they could have guided me to relax if they had been more skilful, instead the process made me tearful, to feel inadequate & violated.

The experience could have (just) been tolerable if it was investigative - for mere screening, & given the poor support I received during the procedure it is horrific.

I'm not squeamish and have had 2 children without drugs.

I also have to administer my own injections.

Whomever came up with this concept should be forced to undergo what I have experienced today.

I terminated the session and left in tears (and went to work) but 5 hours later I'm still distressed.
