"Poor Specialist, Zero Communication"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Rheumatology

TL:DR - don't choose this Rhematology Dept. They don't respond and the doctors aren''t interested.

I went to see a consultant in the Rheumatology department for possible Fibromyalgia.

The doctor asked questions that seemed to come from a checklist, they had little interest in detail, their examination of me was bizarre, pressure point testing used about as much pressure as a slightly damp feather.

They requested many blood tests and x-rays which I had in the hospital at the same time. I received a letter about 2 weeks later listing out the tests and saying there should be a review in 4 months (?!). I wait... for an appointment letter... and wait. I call the secretary who was really rude and told me they don't tell you test results and don't make appointments. So I went to my GP, who wrote to the hospital asking for more information and what the follow up might be. It's now nearly 7 months later and I'm yet to hear a word. There is noone at the hospital to talk to, just a load of answerphones that tell you they pretty much wont reply to you, or switchboards that ring for about 20 mins and then cut off.

Dear KB,

Thank you for taking the time to make contact. The experience you have had is not acceptable in any way. Your experience of the rheumatologist may be a matter of individual preference, but rudeness of the secretary is not acceptable, whatever pressures we may be under. My sincere apologies for this. If you cannot get through to anyone please do leave a message and someone will get back to you if you contact the Patient Experience Team.

This is a time of heightened activity in the NHS, where we are trying match our resources as best we can to demand. We fully realise that we don't always get things right and so where that happens we have a clear process to bring about an improvement, simply contact us on 01279 82 72 11 or email pals@pah.nhs.uk and we will do our best to put things right, I hope you do feel able to make contact and I look forward to resolving this for you.
