"Discharged with no support"

About: NHS Fife

(as a relative),

Fife Psychology Dept don't appear to care about my relative. My relative had appointments with them for nearly 2 years to try and address abuse they experienced. They felt the sessions were rushed and uncompleted when they were discharged from the service. It feels like they were discharged without any regard for their stability or frame of mind because I think that anybody who really paid attention could see they were struggling and suicidal. At this point in time they are still struggling without support as charity organisations are NOT interested in helping and I feel like the options suggested for them to try would end up with them attempting suicide because of the associations they have to their past.

Dear chimon23

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your relative's experience with psychology. It sounds like a difficult situation for your relative and for the wider family. I have shared your story with the team and they would urge your relative to seek support. Without knowing the specific details it is difficult to comment; however please let your relative know they can speak to their GP and seek a re referral or contact me directly so that I can seek more specific advice from the team.

Please feel free to provide my contact details

Regards

Louise

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. My relative did speak with their GP about a re referral to psychology which was rejected by the psychology dept and the GP was told to refer my relative to a charity which had made it clear a few months before hand that they would not give them help in any way.

This situation has caused my relative to be retraumatised by the abuse they experienced. Also the way the situation was handled has left them with increased feelings of suicidalness and isolation.
