"Maternity scan and clinic"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Maternity

We have attended a number of appointments now due to being assigned clinician led care. We have yet to see the same clinician more than once and each has offered differing advice on the best way for my wife to deliver the baby. This advice seems to be based on the personal opinion of each consultant as none have attributed the conflicting messages to any evidence or the progress of the pregnancy. This has produced doubts that we have made the correct choices as we progress.

We have had to wait a lot with little or no explanation (though apologies were provided) the most recent visit was over 3 hours for a scan and consultant visit, despite having an appointment time of 910 am.

The reception staff were mainly polite and helpful thought we have been spoken to harshly when trying to check in for each part of the appointment on two occasions because the receptionists were 'busy' and 'setting up clinic now'.

Response from Russells Hall Hospital

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback about our Maternity Services.

If there are considerable delays, we ask staff to keep patients fully informed about the length of wait expected as best they can. We appreciate that such a long wait must have been uncomfortable for you and apologise for the inconvenience.

We are sorry that the receptionists have come across as abrupt on occasions and we have brought your comments to the attention of the matron in charge of maternity services.

With regards to conflicting information provided by consultants, it is difficult to comment further on your specific case without your own details and reviewing your medical notes. If you wish to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on free phone 0800 073 0510, we would happily look into the issues you have raised.
