"Disgusting patient care"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / Accident and emergency

My 70 year old father was brought into the A & E with a broken hip. Upon arrival he was left in a cubicle with no care whatsoever. He was screaming in pain and was left for over 3 hours with no painkillers apart from what he had been given in the ambulance. He was in extreme pain and distress and was having trouble breathing and possibly going into shock from the pain, his SATS were extremely low and he was scared. When a nurse did eventually come in to see what was what (after the shift change) they actually got things moving along. I was disgusted with the lack of patient care, empathy and general couldn't be bothered attitude of the staff on duty. Whilst in hospital waiting for the hip replacement and in recovery from said hip replacement permanent staff on wards were great but your temporary staff have zero patient care skills or anything resembling humanity, I was horrified by the way that my father was treated by some of the staff at this hospital. On another note whatever it is that you serve up that you dare class as food is not what I would expect. Even jails serve better food than this, the portions wouldn't feed a child and on more than one occasion the "food" was unrecognisable and actually looked as though someone had vomited on a plate. You also might want to train your staff on what can be given to a diabetic. Giving them cake and custard and telling them that it is ok to eat as a diabetic is surely not right.
