"Pain relief."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

I had to go to the Royal because of a severe pain from my hip to my ankle. The severity of the pain caused nausea ,cold sweats and I was disoriented. No matter how I sat or lay I couldnt lose the pain. The pain was so bad that I made the effort to go to the Royal at 4am Saturday morning. Not able to sleep because of the severity of the pain, going to the Royal gave me hope but this was soon dashed. The first thing the nurse said was why did I not go to my own GP.Three days with no sleep, I told them that I had come for some pain relief so I can get some sleep.I asked the nurse if they could prescribe me some pain relief they said you can buy this over the counter. I was desperate and came for help but was turned away.

I'm very sorry to hear that you felt you were turned away. Our ED Team is always happy to see any patients with serious concerns for their health or wellbeing, although at peak times the service can be extremely busy and they have to prioritise patients who have life threatening illness or injury. If you are unsure about which care is right for you NHS 111 is available 24 hours and can signpost you to the most appropriate place. Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback and I hope that you are feeling better.
