"Attended A&E with severe stomach pain"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Reported to reception and initially taken straight through. Blood pressure done, temp done, cannula inserted into arm. Walked to room 12 or 14 it was the one next to the toilet. I was told to lie on the bed a nurse eventually came did ECG very rude no eye contact or conversation to put me at ease.

They then took blood and gave a bottle to wee in. They then disappeared. I still had the urine sample in my hand and remained in the room with the sample for 2 hours in agony with stomach and back pain, not one nurse came and checked on me.

The pain in my stomach started to ease up slightly and I sat up on the bed. A nurse then appeared (different to the first one) again very abrupt no eye contact and proceeded to give me an anti sickness drug and morphine 2 HOURS after I had cried and rocked on the bed in agony. A doctor then appeared and asked me what was happening. They then proceeded to tell me they couldn't see anything in my blood or urine and told me to go home as they didn't know what was wrong and get an appointment to see my GP.

I was shown the way out and saw my GP. They told me bloods that they had taken a week earlier were showing an issue with my kidney function and that I could have a kidney stone or might have passed it that night in A&E as the pain was so intense. I was made to feel like a fraud by your staff, the attitude of the nurses was disgusting and to leave me for 2 hrs without any pain relief was beyond comprehensible.

I didn't take the decision to come to A &E lightly and had previously attended my GP but the pain that night was so severe it was frightening. But being made to feel unwelcome and like I was in the way was horrendous.
