I was advised on a triage call with a nurse from my GP practice to bring my daughter in to A&E. She'd had a cold/fever/high temp for two weeks which wasn't shifting and had started with a cough which, in turn, was making her sick. She also developed a roseacea - like rash which I wasn't 100% concerned about too much - but at the same time I didn't want to be under concerned!
When we arrived at the hospital, it was quite busy but we were seen to initially within minutes. My daughter had some paracetamol and we were led back out to wait for a nurse. I gave them a detailed account of her symptoms etc. They then went to speak to a colleague for another opinion. I think their initial thoughts were that she had a viral infection but to be sure, they called for the senior pediatrician to assess her as they didn't want to ignore the "purpuric" rash as they'd called it.
She was given Ibuprofen to bring her temperature down and was assessed in great detail. Eventually we were allowed home with the advice to keep an eye on her. We were also told that a referral would be done to the community nurses so we could have some reassurance over the weekend should we have needed it. I don't think this was done but - she is on the mend now albeit with a cough to be wary of still but we are not concerned like we were. This is due to the remarkable help we got from the staff that day with my daughter.
I did not want to waste anyone's time just because she had a cough that made her be sick but at the same time I didn't want to leave her. They didn't make me feel silly at all and I am so thankful for this occasion (& all the others that we've been in with both children) and their reassurance.
The staff are always so polite, kind, helpful, reassuring, compassionate, understanding, I could go on all day.
I do work at the MRI so call me biased but it is true. While the visit might not be the most pleasant, I am full of praise for how they make us feel while we're here. We are very lucky to have such amazing medical staff to care for our children. Thank you to everyone who was involved with our visit that day.
"Thank you for looking after our daughter :)"
