"17 months and counting"

About: Walton Hospital

17 months now in Walton Hospital for my other half.

Totally unacceptable! Four weeks ago at our monthly catch up we arranged a meeting for today to commence at 10.00am. At 08.20 this morning I received a call from his consultant telling me that he was unable to attend the meeting due to commitments and Bakewell and the Hartington unit.

I find this totally appalling. Plus, the ward had diaried it in to start at 10.30! We all had our diaries out to organise today's meeting and I took a day off work.

I think it is totally unprofessional for a consultant to do this.

It seems to me that 1: he considers my husband the least of his priorities,( basically because he doesn't know what to do with him) and/or 2: that he was seeking to avoid meeting me knowing that I am vociferous and demanding of what I expect and also, that he may have been told that I have shared my concerns about my husband's situation with my MP and given him, ( my MP), permission to escalate it to the Secretary of State for Health.

I accept totally that my husband presents as a difficult case and am now seeking to have his care taken over by another consultant.

I am minded to take our situation to the press and damn the consequences.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear about your experiences. We understand that you approached the CCG and your MP about your concerns and that the service has responded to you recently. The service has provided an explanation as to why the Consultant was unavailable. Regrettably this was due to unforeseen circumstances and a car breakdown. The Matron also met with you to discuss this and to offer her apologies.

If you have any outstanding concerns or wish to pursue your complaint further please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Experience Team by email dchst.patientexperienceteam@nhs.net or telephone 01773 525119.

With best wishes
