"Only one trained TPN staff member"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / General surgery NHS Leicester City CCG

(as a relative),

I think the care on ward 22 is atrocious and you can't really blame the nurses I think it's because there isn't enough of them. My partner has been on this ward numerous times and I've watched patients tip hot soup down them as they have not been sat up to eat there meals and buzzers going off for hours before somebody comes to your aid. My partner was sent down for tpn (Total parenteral nutrition) while on warfarin and now they're back in there as a patient on tpn with really bad anxiety because of what they've been through so had tpn fitted and was told can't run out and can only run for 24 hrs. Two days later it had nearly ran out and pharmacy sent wrong bag up so they couldn't have it on, started to panic so they put a different blood thinner in it turned it off attached it again day later and then tpn was running out again nurse to busy to do it so waited another 3 hrs to have it changed making my partner anxious and panicking again. I wish less money was paid to management and spent on training some more nurses as I dont blame them there so short staffed on that ward as there is only one nurse for 6 bays that's trained to do tpn.

Dear Maddymax,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback.

We're really sorry and disappointed to hear about your partner's poor experience on Ward 22 at the Royal Infirmary. We would like to look into your concerns in further detail, so if you are happy to do so, please email your partner's name, address, date of birth and hospital number and we will pass this on to our General Manager who will investigate further.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for raising this to our attention.

Kind regards
