Dear Operation,

Thank you for your kind words – I will pass them on to the Pre-operative Assessment Clinic this afternoon and I’m sure Mrs Law will appreciate the special mention.

Making sure you have all the information that you need and explaining it in a way that is clear and consistent, is as important to the nurses in the Pre-operative Assessment Clinic as it is to you, and it is good to know that that their compassion and understanding shone through and hopefully helped you feel prepared for your upcoming operation.

Thanks again and best wishes (it would be lovely to hear about the next part of your journey once you have recovered from your operation).

Take care,

Kirsten

Update posted by Operation (the patient)

Thank you for the reply not one for wanting to complain as the nhs is made up of so many staff and it was an absolute delight to have someone so professional yet caring and non judgmental. I thought it was only fair to thank her. If only more people were so fair in there thinking. At the beginning we were strangers and as the progression of the assessment went on we built a rapport at times having to lie down during the assessment due to severe pain. The senior nurse was professional and non judgmental and understanding which I thought was kind caring and professional. She certainly was no nonsense down to earth and certainly knew her job inside out. I came away from the appointment feeling positive and felt the nurse was approachable and of a lot of background knowledge. Felt as the assessment went on we really built up a rapport in a short period. I came out feeling hopeful. Praise is due in certain circumstances I dont like complaining but have had to do lately not with staff but waiting times unfortunately.

Dear Operation,

We are always keen to hear what people think about the care and services we provide as it helps us improve and lets us know when we are getting things right, but I'm sorry you'd had cause to complain recently.

The staff in the Pre-operative assessment clinic are especially good at taking time to listen to the people that they come into contact with, helping them to feel calm and knowledgeable about what will happen in the next stage of their care. They seem to do their jobs well and are very receptive to feedback.

It's often those small touches, when it feels like someone really cares and understands how we feel, that can really make a difference to how we perceive our care. Thanks again for your kind comments.

Take care,

Kirsten
