A dear friend was at Fryatt hospital in Trinity ward and I was most impressed by the staff . The friend in question was terminally ill and was made to feel so comfortable, that he wanted to be at the hospital rather than home during his last days.
It is always the more sensible option for elderly people (who live on their own) to choose being in hospital when ill; but it is harder to choose a hospital because hospitals are cold places which can make them feel more helpless and out of control. But in this ward, I could not help feeling that the staff were warm and smiling and the dignity and comfort of patients was a huge priority. Patients looked attended to and were given single rooms to themselves, if such was their need in view of their condition. Visitation was flexible - they were understanding if your visit was late as I was often visiting from far away.
Even after we lost our friend, the sensitivity with which we were supported was most commendable. I hope the hospital, the staff and the ward continue to function at such a high standard. It makes it easier for the grieving family to know that their loved one was happy in his environment during his last days. Thank you
