"hearing aid batteries"

Called for spare hearing aid batteries which I have done on 3 previous occasions without a problem. On this occasion I stood at the 'wait here' sign. The person on reception looked up and barked, "Have you got an appointment?" I answered no. The person then asked, "how can I help you." I asked for some spare hearing batteries. The person then asked me for my NHS card. I was surprised at this as no one had ever asked me for it before. I told the reception person this and explained that the clinic usually just give me some spare batteries. I got a short talk about the importance of presenting my NHS card as I might not have been an NHS patient and therefore not entitled to them. I was then told there are 2 sorts of batteries and asked which ones I required. I removed a battery from one of my hearing aids and showed the person. The response was - what colour packet do they come in? I was becoming embarrassed and explained I didn't know as I am colour blind (I really am - it is quite a nuisance sometimes.) The person was about to give me another short talk on the importance of knowing what colour packet the batteries came in as there are 2 different sizes but I felt I was being treated like an idiot, so I said, "Never mind I'll go to Southport hospital and get them there," and off I went feeling like a scolded child and vowing never to return to Ainsdale Clinic again - which is a pity because I live in Ainsdale.
