The treatment I received here was excellent.
During the birth of my son I used firstly the MIdwifery lead unit, then the obstetrics lead unit, then the theatre and finally the ward where I stayed for 3 days.
Although things didn't run smoothly the care I received was brilliant.
Unforeseen events meant I had a long labour and was moved from the care of the midwives to the obstetricians and finally into theatre for an assisted delivery due to the cord being round the baby's neck.
Like many mothers my birth plan went out the window and although I was distressed by the unfolding events I was nurtured and cared for every step of the way. My son was born using forceps after I had a spinal block and episiotomy, all of which I was adimant I was not having (written into birth plan). The staff were gracious and respectfull and guided me to what was best for my unborn child.
My partner and best friend who were present during the birth were also well looked after with quiet spaces with soft seats for naps and hot drinks throughout the night.
I am so grateful to all of them. Long may our NHS serve us and god bless all those that work in this high pressure and sometimes thankless environment.
