"This happens almost every time we visit the hospital."

About: Croydon University Hospital

(as a service user),

We have a disabled label and still had to park at the wrong end of the hospital.

This happens almost every time we visit the hospital.

We do understand space is of a premium but a few more disabled places would help especially at the main entrance.

However the actual treatment was exceptional.

It is pleasing to hear that you found your treatment exceptional and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

However I am sorry that you were inconvenienced whilst trying to find a disabled parking space in a suitable location.

We understand the need to have adequate disabled parking which is why we offer blue badge holders the option of free parking in any of the visitor car parks. Unfortunately the main entrance is reserved for drop-off and collection only due to the limited space, but we do know that this system actually prevents congestion elsewhere on the hospital site.

The hospital has 195 spaces set aside for patients and visitors, 15 of which are marked as disabled bays. This means that disabled parking provision complies with legislation, however we do acknowledge that finding a space in a convenient location can take people a long time.

For reference, our parking bays are shown below.

• Woodcroft Car Park - Zone A&E 2 Disabled bays plus 52 public bays

• Nightingale Car Park 8 Disabled bays plus 79 public bays

• Zone F Jubilee Wing (Maternity Wing) 5 Disabled bays

You may already be aware but there are a number of parking spaces on London Road controlled by Croydon Council. Blue badge holders are allowed to park free of charge and without time limit.

The Trust is continually reviewing car parking provision across it's main sites and we are currently seeking the Disabled Motoring UK accreditation (DMUK). DMUK work with businesses across the UK to improve parking and access provision for disabled people, so that they can access the goods and services that they need. We anticipate that we will achieve this by the end of the financial year.

With kind regards

Hilary Frayne
