when I fell pregnant and visited my midwife for the first time, whilst talking with her she informed me I had to be referred to social services for them to evaluate my personal situation. After a few problems with my babys dad and my mental health through pregnancy social services remained involved. my social worker got me in touch with a lovely lady who has helped me throughout being pregnant and after giving birth. Emma had taken me to hospital appointments, scans and visited me at home and supported me in groups. if I had not had Emma I think I would have shed a few more tears to be honest. when I was pregnant and was of medication I was lonely scared and worried about everything. Emma kept my spirits up and during appointments made sure I was feeling ok and sometimes would ring later that day to check. I never felt judged or uncomfortable by or round Emma.
Throughout being pregnant to now there are few people I have felt I have benefited support from, and I feel Emma is a credit to the retford childrens centre and I now recommend people to use the services from surestart because everyone needs a bit of help from time to time and sure start is a safe and friendly place that you and your babies and children will enjoy. I have made good friends from going to groups and look forward to going and that is all down to Emma.
I didn't have to go and was never made to feel like that Emma suggested I tried it and within half an hour of being there I felt relaxed and happy I am so glad I went. when your young and lonely and pregnant you can be vulnerable. To let a stranger in your home can be a big thing, to talk to them about feelings, to be that comfortable they sit and see your scan with you because you have no one. But right from the start I was able to trust and engage with Emma to seek advice and support. Emma you are a fantastic member of your team and I am grateful for all your help and advice. Now I am doing well and get out and about and have friends and attend groups its time I spread my wings although your not my worker anymore I still know where help is should I need it. thank you so much
