"Nurse often gave up her lunch to fit me in"

About: NHS England London

(as the patient),

After recently falling over, I was left with a great deal of swelling accompanied by extensive bruising of my left knee. However, fortunately there appeared to be no dislocation or fracture. I also there was slight grazing to which I applied antiseptic cream. After about a week, although my knee had reduced bruising the graze appeared to have become infected. I visited my GP at the Addington Road Clinic in West Wickham. I was given a course of antibiotics and made a further appointment. However after a few days, the wound on my knee became much more infected, I was referred to Sister Sarah at the clinic who took a swab, cleaned and dressed my wound. Despite this the wound became much worse, resulting in a hematoma and a 2" x 2" hole in my knee. During the next few weeks, Sister Sarah continued to treat my knee every other day, often giving up her lunch to fit me in at the very overstretched practice. During that period she provided a very high level of professional care, reassurance and friendliness at all times. I was made to feel confident that my wellbeing was of utmost importance.

Thanks to the high level of treatment I received my knee has now fully recovered.

Considering the pressure that we all know then NHS is currently under. I cannot thank the team at Addington Road Clinic and especially Sister Sarah enough as without their care, my situation could have been far worse!
