My grandson has Bern in since last week his mother has Bern staying with him. Now while the general care for him has Been satisfactory I am very disappointed in the fact that his mother is expected to stay and yet not once has she Bern offered any food. To the point they even tried to take her bed off her. Now as she is not allowed to leave him how is she supposed to get food. The poor woman is only getting food when someone happens to visit to bring her something. She is very stressed as u can imagine.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand how worrying it is when a child is in hospital.

Our staff are always encouraged to support parents when staying with their child and allow opportunities for them to take breaks to get refreshments as and when needed.

We are sorry that this may not have been the case on this occasion.

Facilities are available on the ward to make drinks and a microwave is available should parents wish to bring food from home.

However, parents aren’t provided with food unless a mother is breastfeeding. The restaurant located near the Main Entrance to the hospital is also available. Parents are given this information from the Lead Nurse or Nurse in charge on arrival to the ward and all parents are encouraged to raise any queries they may have with the staff caring for their child. .

We have limited availability of folding beds but will always endeavour to meet the needs of parents or carers who wish to stay with their child. In addition, the Children’s Ward is purchasing additional daybeds for the High Dependency Unit area.
